[Done]: Transparent image overlay
« on: June 27, 2006, 12:58:02 am »

One thing I would love to see implemented, is a "protection" kind of thing, meaning the images are automatically overlayed by a transparent image. This prevents the user from saving the actual image by rightclicking. When they do, they will only save the transparent image! A site that has implemented this, is IMDb. Even though this isn't 100% secure against those who are determined to save the image, the "regular visitor" won't have the knowledge and/or idea how to fetch it.

This protection would be nice to see on all the images, including thumbnails and "full scaled" images!

It's not so difficult to realize it. One way to do is to use the original valuable picture as background in a 1x1 table cell and to add a transparent gif - which could by the way include a watermark - as the "picture" into the cell.

Issues
To generate GIF's with the right matching size. With GD Lib it should be done easily.
Question is, who will your visitors feel, when they downloaded dozens of transparent GIF's and they are trying to view them again? At least kidded. Maybe it was their last visit at your site.

@xx-07: This is the Feature Requests board and is a "no support" board as it clearly says.

Please ask support questions on the appropriate support board, referencing the mod you are referring to (or directly in the mod thread).

Can we get this moved into the feature requests for CPG 1.5.x? This is a really important feature for professional photographers and intellectual property owners who display their work online for marketing and promotional purposes.
