Trouble Uploading Photos - Some are ok and some are not.
« on: August 29, 2007, 12:23:22 am »

I have a site and it has benn working for ages now absolutley fine.
All of a sudden I get intermittent upload problems.
I have removed the whole install and started again but it is still giving me the same problem.
Even files that uploaded correctly before are now not uploading and I get messagesd like

I had about 12 galleries of club nights and as you can see I now have none.
I get errors like this to when i select the folder to batch upload

Notices
/searchnew.php
Notice line 577: Undefined variable: iframe_startfolder

when i click the folder to add I then get
Notices
/include/functions.inc.php
Warning line 2933: cannot yet handle MBCS in html_entity_decode()!

Notice line 2683: Undefined variable: i
/searchnew.php
Notice line 101: Undefined variable: sel_album
Notice line 169: Undefined variable: fullimagesize
Notice line 170: Undefined variable: fullimagesize

for every photo I try to upload.

Then when I click Ok to select the folder to put them into I get
what you can see below and a white page.

Probably resource restrictions imposed by your webhost. Ask them.

I have asked the hosting company but they say it must be a software issue as it uploads some folders and not others
Can you advise on what else I can try

did anyone ever find a solution to this?

I have the *exact* same problem. CP 1.4.19 was working perfectly for weeks, now I can't batch upload. I get the same error messages. I followed the directions on the upload problems and tried http upload-no error message, no problems at all.

I also tried uploading my photos by batch upload but selecting them one by one, that works intermittantly but not consistently.

I don't know what to try-I'm stumped.

Anybody? This seems to be a persistent problem (lots of forum posts about it) but I can't really see a definitive fix posted here if there is no error message via ftp.

This is how it happens: I upload my photos onto my ftp, i log into coppermine, i go to batch add, I select the directory in the filebrowser thingy, i click  ok, i see the list with the checkboxes on the left and the thumbnail images on the right, i select the folder they are supposed to go into and then click "insert files" at the bottom, and bam, i'm returned back to the filebrowser, every single time.

As I said, I don't get any errors using http upload at all.

I'd be very grateful for any advice because this is effectively rendering my gallery unusable :(

thank you, it's really appreciated.

also: I set all my permissions to 777
I read this page http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#upload_trouble and searched for the error message, which is why I am replying to the original post...

I read this page http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#upload_trouble
No, you have not. At least, you haven't read it thoroughly. Re-read it and do exactly as suggested there. Hijacking someone else's thread is not nice btw.

You haven't done exactly as suggested: the number of file and uri upload fields is not set as per instructions. Additionally, read up http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/topic,55415.msg270632.html#msg270632

I am very confused about booth of my errors.
I correct the number of file as asking in documentation. About my post, do you want me to create a new post even if there is no more activity since last post?
Thank you and sorry again for my errors.

Yes I known http upload works. As I said, I have problems when I upload more than 3 pictures in batch mode. (pictures already uploaded by ftp in a subfolder of album directory). Some of them appears corectly and are inserted in album and others don't work. If I try again some others pictures will be accepted and I have to repeat batch upload in order to complete upload!
I would like to know why...
Thank you

I would like to know why...
You're probably running into server-sided restrictions (resources shortage). I recommend resizing the files on the client before uploading them.

I don't think it's that !
Because the size of files I send is about 150k. Moreover I tried to send my own thumb and normal pictures and it don't solve problem.
Is there a mean to find where is the problem?

Thanks

It's not a matter of file size, but dimensions. Since my test upload worked I'm pretty sure that this is related to the files you're trying to add.

To check, I've just try to add the same picture you uploaded. I duplicated your flower 6 times and upload by by ftp. The 3 first are OK and other the others ask me for "click for details or to reload". So I think we can exclude a file problem.

As I guessed earlier, this is a matter of resources shortage on your server then. Do as the error message suggested and reload the page to add the missing files that haven't been added in the first run. That's how batch-add works.
