Uploading pictures
« on: August 22, 2007, 07:53:31 pm »

Hello
i couldn't upload pictures to my gallery on http://gallery.svekaschoten.be
I managed to integrate the gallery with my forum so don't be suprised if you go to the forum
it's work in progress
user : test
pwd: testtest

first i got critical error so i changed the chmod to 755 since it was on 777
then i got a new error saying i can't create a folder albums/userpics/10007
i checked it out and the folder was already there with chmod 755
so i changed the owner to webserver instead of me since i read it on the forum
but it still doesn't work :s
Could someone help me?
I probably looked over something

Thanks

Andy

http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#upload_trouble

Follow the steps mentioned in that part of the documentation and provide the info needed.

# Enable debug mode for everyone  Done
# Leave display of notices switched off Done
# Save the new settings by clicking on "Save new configuration" Done

Error message is
Quote
Failed to create directory albums/userpics/10007 !
which means that the user the webserver runs under doesn't have permissions to create a sub-folder. This is related to permissions, so make sure that your efforts to change permissions actually stick. You will maybe have to ask your webhost for support if doing as suggested in the permissions section of the docs doesn't help.

I tried to change that
I have 2 options: I can change the owner to You (he means me ;)  ) or Webserver.
I put everything under  userpics to Webserver.
Do you think i should put the whole albums/ folder under Webserver??
Or not all the folders and files?

The albums folder and everything within it should be owned by the webserver.

Ownership changes are being performed using the CHOWN command on Lunix-driven systems. Usually, when webhosted, you can't do this on your own - your webhost will have to apply this for you.

It seems i can change this

Change dir owner (chown):

  Dirname: /gallery/albums/userpics
  Current owner: You
New setting:  You or Webserver   Recursive  or not

This is an example
Can you tell me what folders need to change and to what owner??
I can only change owner to You or Webserver
If it should be something else let me know which one so i can tell it to my webhost.
Thanks

You got two choices: make the folder be owned by you or the webserver. I adviced you to make it owned by the webserver. You set it to be owned by you. Then you complain that things don't work as expected. Don't you think that you made a mistake? Is this a language issue? Don't you understand what I'm saying?  ::)

If you don't understand how to accomplish this, do as I suggested above: ask your webhost for support.
The albums folder and everything within it needs to be owned by the user the webserver runs under. The user the webserver runs under needs rxw permissions for all files and folders within the albums folder. Tell your webhost exactly what I just posted, or make them read this thread. I'm out of this thread.

Maybe it's just me but i understand from that sentence that the albums folder is NOT owned by the webserver and that leaves me with only one option YOU
Yes maybe this is a language issue english isn't my motherlanguage so if i misunderstood you please let me know in a proper way.

I know how to set the owner and how to set permissions
this is how it's being showed by my webhost
Folder          Owner   Permissions
albums      You   755 (drwxr-xr-x)

Anyone else who wants to help since it looks like he left??

Album should be set to 777. If you installed your cpg yourself then you would have gotten a message during installation asking you to set certain folders to 777.
Did you install your cpg yourself or did your webhost do that for you ?

My webhost provides certain autoinstallers and one of them was Coppermine
I picked coppermine because i liked the reviews and the gallery itself and the integration with phpbb
hopefully i get this working :)
i'm still trying ;)

Auto installers usually are crappy at best. Which auto installer do they use ?

My advice to you is get rid of your current cpg. Download the latest stable version (1.4.12) and install it yourself. That way you have it all under control and you learn how to install and maintain cpg yourself instead of relying on a auto installer which basicly keeps you in the dark.

http://www.servage.net/page/autoinstaller/ Not sure which auto installer they use but i suggest you do it manually anyway. That way your cpg is not influenced by any settings in that auto installer which might corrupt your cpg.

I'm really sorry - this has been wrong. Of course, the sentence should have said

Please accept my apologies for posting wrong information and doing so twice. I corrected by above postings (for reference in search engine). Your above quote contains my original posting, which is wrong. I'm a bonehead, sorry again.
