High CPU usage
« on: August 21, 2007, 12:08:57 am »

Hello, my Coppermine gallery is hosted at Resellerspanel where we have a daily limit of 4.5% CPU usage. I've been receiving notifications constantly saying that I'm using too much CPU (11%, 23% and so on). They told me to "optimize my database" but I honestly have no idea what they mean by that.

So far, I figured out that it's best to resize my HQ images myself and upload them as normal_Picturename.jpg in order to save some CPU usage. But that's about it. Can anyone explain to me how I can optimize the database itself and avoid such high CPU usage? Thanks a bunch!!

1) You're running cpg1.4.10, while the most recent stable release is cpg1.4.12 - upgrade!
2) Turn "most recent" off
3) Disable stats - see http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=44378.0 and various other threads.

Side-note: your text is barely readable on my notebook - I suggest reviewing your stylesheet.

GauGau, thanks for your reply. I know about the hard-to-read text. A new layout is being designed as we speak...  :)

In the meantime, I have turned "most recent" off. Regarding number 3 --> I think I've already disabled those. I mean, when you open a category, none of the albums list the number of files, date last added etc. Or do you mean something else?

I'l now try to upgrade to cpg1.4.12. Fingers crossed!

GauGau means the stats which are shown on index page (6773 files in 357 albums and 89 categories with 2 comments viewed 98241 times).

Thanks, Abbas Ali. I'll look into this as soon as possible, hoping that it helps solving my problem. Thanks for your advice, both of you.  :)
