directory for photos in batch

Is it possible to choose a directory which is not under the install-directory. I had installed it in the directory

db

But my photos are in

photos/category1/big
                       2
                       3

Is there a possibility to "upload" these files in batch? Or has the directory to be under db ?

Otherwise would it be possible to install Coppermine 1.4 in photos and use the directories categoryN/big for the photos?

I am new in Coppermine.
