I've read through a LOT of posts on here trying to find an answer but as a pretty much novice when it comes to SLQ, PHP and all those other abbreviations, I'm asking for help.
 
I tried to upgrade my coppermine installation yesterday on http://www.viewfromtheroof.com and it all went horribly wrong.
 
I've managed to get it to a reasonable point where I can see that my photo albums and photos are still there, but it's got a critical error (apparently!). I got into debug mode and found this info. I tried repairing the database using MyPHPAdmin, but it says it's all fine and dandy, so not quite sure where to go from here. My web host says they can restore from a backup, but being a cheapskate, I'm trying to fix it first! Any suggestions? Pllleease? And bear in mind I'm still a bit of an idiot when it comes to these technical dodahs.

Did you use Fantastico or some other automatic installed for cpg ? The error message "
mySQL error: Unknown column 'randpos' in 'field list'" usually is caused by using a method such as fantastico.

Uh oh - I did. I kept getting automated emails to tell me to upgrade. So on the screen in Coppermine it said "upgrade" and I clicked it. I think I've read now on these boards that I shouldn't have done that. Can I fix it? <hope hope hope>

Yes you can fix it :
- Download most recent version by clicking on Downloads link on top of this page (it will send you to SF)
- Do as suggested under Upgrading document and upgrade your gallery

You are an absolute star. I have followed the instructions to the T and all is good in the world. Thank you so much for your help (and for telling me all wasn't lost!). I promise not to upgrade through Fantastico next time.
 
And for saving me from running to my hosting provider to get the backup restored! Thanks again.
