Changing image file names?
« on: March 13, 2007, 12:46:08 am »

Is there an easy way to update file names for images within the site? (for purposes of SEO?)  I'd like to include the name of the person in the photograph in the file name to assist search engines in identifying (and returning) the images when someone does an image search for these people's names... is there a feature that would allow me to do this - simpifying the process of link updating and database records?

Thanks to whomever can help!

the title field is sufficient to associate the image file with an image search.

for example I just did a google image search for "Witch of the Feryal" which is the title of one of the images in my coppermine install...and the first entry that came up was that image from my gallery.   The actual filename of that image is "kiaira1.JPG"

So as far as google images goes the title field seems to work fine.

I would just give everything accurate titles and descriptions and then try and work on your site's overall pagerank.

I can understand what you want to do in terms of SEO, however there's nothing in Coppermine's user interface to accomplish this. You'll have to rename the files manually (using your FTP app) and then reflect the change inside coppermine's pictures table directly on the database (using phpMyAdmin or similar). Not recommended though unless you really know your way around. As Nick suggested: using good keywords and file title and description should improve your ranking in search engines pretty much.
