"The previous file could not be placed" upload problem
« on: March 07, 2007, 11:02:53 am »

Well, I did as required and read the manual. I also changed all the settings as instructed. Unfortunately, I still keep getting this error:

The previous file could not be placed.

You have successfully placed all the files.

Every time I try to upload anything via http. Despite all the changed settings, the error message isn't any more detailed than that. At the same time, I can't batch add files at all. When I go to batch add, it tells me there are no albums. But there are definitely albums there, all the images are showing fine in the gallery and on my server. All the folders' permissions are set at what they should be.

I searched the forum but the threads I found were all "Please follow these instructions" and then the link to the upload troubleshooting page. So I followed those instructions and here I am.

Creative, isn't it?

Thanks in advance, this is driving me insane.

Try the search option, it's there for a reason.
Searching with "The previous file could not be placed" delivers a list of threads dealing with this problem.

See this thread:

Or for that matter, read the documentation:

Your page is dead-slow, are you per chance self-hosted?
Actual error message is
Quote
Critical error
Impossible to move Beispiel.jpg to albums/userpics/ !

File: E:\inetpub\vhosts\theimmortalityproject.com\httpdocs\tipgalleries\db_input.php - Line: 355
Set permissions as suggested in the docs and review safe_mode as Hein suggested.

I have all the permissions set as suggested. After changing everything as suggested for SafeMode, I can upload photos via http but still can't batch add. As I said, I DID use the search function. But none of the responses spoke to my issue, because the "silly safe mode" tag was already present.

P.S. We're switching servers soon but not until I can get this issue straightened out :(

Well, the bad response time of the server could be the reason for batch-add not working. This is anyway server-setup related, so it doesn't make sense trying to fix this issue on the current server setup if you plan to move to another server afterwards: the issues you currently have might go away on the new server. I suggest moving servers now and then (after the move) look into upload issues (if they should persist).
