Attribution for batch uploads
« on: February 25, 2007, 03:33:45 am »

Hi, I have created a gallery that is built using public, shared albums only (team sports, no personal albums). When people use the standard upload process (http) it is great, Perfecto!! However, when I batch add photos to an album (from an FTP'd folder) I am unable to give attribution and editing control to a user for those images. It all goes in as an admin upload.
A user attribution option for the batch add feature would be great.
Thanks for a great gallery.

Has been asked very often already, so my answer will be short: you mustn't grant others FTP access to your gallery nor any other portion of your webspace, that's why batch-add is an admin only feature. We will definitely not consider making it publicly available for non-admins.

That's not what is being requested. Being able to assign ownership of files to a user when batch adding on their behalf makes sense to me.

Hi again, Just thought I should check back and see what the response was.
Gau, I agree completely. Managing a bunch of users requires some controls. Giving out FTP access, even limited access, is not a good idea, especially if your paying for bandwidth.
However Nibbler is correct. Access is not what I wanted to offer my users but attribution. To add their names to their photos even though I uploaded them. To give them ownership and editing ability would be even better. I think it would be  a useful feature.
Thanks,
BC

Hm, sorry for not reading thoroughly enough. I agree that a user interface driven place to change ownership of files would be handy. If anybody is going to code it, please go ahead.
