Works fine for me (IE).  Make sure you have the correct codec on your system.  Possibly clear your cache as well.

OK, for some reason, I can't view them now.  I'm using IE7 as well.  It was a snow scene of sorts, people skiing (just so you know I wasn't fibbing).

Anyway, you shouldn't be using AVI's for web delivery anyway.  You should really consider converting them to a more friendly [web] format (wmv, mov, flv...).

Something is definitely wrong with the file itself as it won't even open in the WMP as a standalone -

I do all different formats of video w/CPG, it can be done.  Lose AVI though.

Edit : BTW, WMP version 11.

I can see the video in IE7 and FF2.0.0.1.  I'll try again tomorrow to see if I can still play that video.

Works for me as well using
  • IE6.0.2800.1106
  • Opera 7.54
  • Firefox 2.0.0.1
  • K-Meleon 1.0
(all of them on W2K prof. SP4)

The codec is 'Motion JPEG', I can play the file locally with WMP 11, but my browsers (codec plugin - I don't think it's a streaming format for starters) don't like it.

So, if you want cross-platform compatability, you'll have to use a different format, it's that simple.

Good luck !

Always stick with common codecs, like DivX and Quicktime.  Never use AVI on the web - the only use for AVI is to keep videos in an uncompressed state for editing purposes.

That video still plays for me.  I didn't expect any problems because I have quite a few codecs installed on my PC, but you can't expect your visitors to have nearly every available codec installed on their computer.

Thanks everyone. I have made the decision to follow your advise and not use avi format.
I have a job to convert videos  ;) but it works.

Thanks.

Take a look at Super.  It's free and converts pretty much any video to any other format you want.

Another recommended tool to convert videos is the Windows Media Encoder. Of course it can only convert into proprietary M$-codecs, which will lock out alternative operating systems to a certain extent, but then there are Win32 libraries for Linux available that allow wmv and similar files to be displayed on Linux boxes. Using WMV as a video format is recommended in terms of quality and file size.

Did as you suggested and edited out reference to your site.

You can't. Has been deliberately disabled due to abuse in the past.
