logging in problems
« on: December 01, 2006, 06:27:28 pm »

After MANY hours searching for a way to solve this problem i admit defeat and i'll ask the experts  ;)

The main problem i have now is i can't log in to my gallery. If i try to log in with my 'normal' details i get the error can't log in
When i try with mt admin log in i get the welcome and then i'm logged out again.

I've deleted cookies/temp files.

I reinstalled the gallery and it works fine with the same database but when i change config.inc.php to the prevous tables i get the problem.I've not/never installed any mods/hacks

Also noticed if i request a new password/password lost i get :-

Here is the new password you requested: Username: stonesy Password: ********* Click http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/login.php to log in.

my gallery is http://www.tribal-living.co.uk/gallery

Thank you in advance for your time and help

Here is the new password you requested: Username: stonesy Password: ********* Click http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/login.php to log in.

my gallery is http://www.tribal-living.co.uk/gallery
Then you have failed to provide the actual URL in coppermine's config, that's why the login fails (you still have the default value there). Try to log in manually without clicking the link and review your config. If you can't access it, edit directly in your database. Use a tool like phpMyAdmin, browse the table yourCopperminePrefix_config, find the entry "ecards_more_pic_target" and change it to "http://www.tribal-living.co.uk/gallery"

So your login doesn't stick? Mind the use of the www subdomain.

I've had the same problem, I think.
I try to log in and it acknowledges the log in with the welcome statement and when it goes to the Home screen I'm not logged in.

This happens randomly.

@wwwilson: keep out of this thread. Start your own instead, posting a link and non-admin test user account if possible.

@stonesy: sorry for the delay. I didn't have the time to look into this yet.

Oops, sorry for the delay. I must admit defeat as well - the login doesn't stick for me neither, and the cookies look OK. I tried sniffing the headers (using HTTP live headers), and I'm not sure about mod_auth_passthrough - maybe someone else could look into this? For now, I recommend two things:
  • Ask your webhost for support. Ask them if they have any hardening or security mods on their server that might interfere
  • You appear to have upgraded; let's make sure that this issue is not related to upgrading; please perform a fresh install of cpg1.4.10 into another folder (using another mysql table prefix) on your server and test authentification there

I've already tried this my friend and have no problem at all......

i then edit my config.inc.php to change table prefix to my 'old tables'.... my albums/photots aprear but loging in is not possible :(

OK, with this piece of information we're getting somewhere. I suspect that the database update hasn't been successfull. Possible reasons: your mysql user doesn't have the needed permissions or your sql files are outdated. Let me check option 2... It seems to be cpg1.4.9.
You'll need to upgrade to cpg1.4.10 anyway, so I suggest you perform the upgrade now.

The prefix doesn't matter. I raather suspect that some table operations performed by the updater didn't stick because of missing permissions for the mysql database user account. Please create a dump of your database (only the structure, not the actual content) and try to compare the structure to the dump of the vanilla install. If you can't, send me the dump by PM.
