Permissions Issues
« on: November 26, 2006, 02:44:33 am »

All of a sudden I am getting this after going into the Batch Add Files option..

Warning: the script can't write in this directory, you need to change its mode to 755 or 777 before trying to add the files !

I went and confirmed with all the albums that need to have the permissions set like this (/include and all the ones in /albums that need it) that the permissions are set that way.

Just to make sure I went ahead and changed em to 755 and then back to 777 with the same result..

I even went into the Config option and reset them to the "factory defaults" with the same result..

Any thoughts/suggestions short of a total re-install?

the only folders that need 777 during batch add are the albums folder.
You have to set them all to 777 (only on some servers 755 will work).

did you take a look at who owns the album folder you're having trouble with?
when you're on your own server and you have created an folder as root (for example), it won't work. you'll have to 'chown' it.

I'm afraid you have lost me with this reference to who owns this folder im having trouble with.. It does not even let me get that far before this statement appears..and it occurs with every folder..

I go through all three of the directory selection screens, and then when the screen comes up to select a album it is along the top..

Once I try to go the album and where it displays the results it says "click for details or reload".. Once I click on it I get another screen with this result and I cant find any reference anywhere to this "Error executing ImageMagick - Return value: 1"

Im just asking because your (second) error message looks like it's related to imagemagic. If you never installed imagemagic, i guess you had GD2 before (it comes with php).

So just try the following:
1) Config page
2) search for "Files and thumbnails advanced settings"
3) search for "Method for resizing images"
4) set it to "GD version 2.x"
5) Save settings.

Try batch add and hopefully be happy.

this is kind of wild guessing, I don't know if the chmod error you experienced could be a side effect of those kind of misconfiguration.

I tried selecting both 2.x and 1.x with the same result as soon as you mentioned the possibility of having switched from GD with the same result..

you should have said it before  :)

Ok, so maybe another one may come up with better ideas.
Anyway: a link to your gallery may be helpful and perhaps a test account too.

Sure well use this one as an example..

http://www.usafirepix.net/albums/upload/usfs/SantaFeHotshots.jpg

I have already HTTP uploaded them cuz I needed to get these files up for some departments. I had thought that when HTTP was working Batch should too so when I first had the Batch issue I tried HTTP just to see if it was still functioning.
