Characters forbidden in filenames
« on: September 27, 2006, 08:42:19 pm »

Hi There,

I am version 1.4.5 and I want to be able to allow my users to link and view MySpace or YouTube vids within the coppermine gallery by entering in the link address in the upload section of coppermine.  The current characters that are forbidden in filenames are $/\\:*?"'<>|` &

Most of the MySpace or YouTube llinks contain some of the forbidden characters.  Can I simply remove the forbidden characters that are in the MySpace and YouTube links and click 'save new configuration'?

Thanks,

Steve

OK..why?  And is there a way to configure coppermine to accept MySpace and YouTube links?

Thanks,

Steve

First of all, it's mandatory to upgrade asap. Most recent version currently is cpg1.4.9. Your version is outdated and has serious security vulnerabilities.

OK..why?
Allowing those characters would make you vulnerable, that's why.

And is there a way to configure coppermine to accept MySpace and YouTube links?
You have to understand that coppermine doesn't hotlink those videos anyway. They have to reside on your webspace. Coppermine doesn't support remote storage (for reasons I'm not going to discuss once more here).

I recommend using youtube for what it is intended to use. What's the point in creating duplicates on your page?
