I too would very much like to see the ability to allow designated groups of users the ability to have their own category control within the User Galleries, or within categories which their group is allowed, or both.
I am creating a public image, media and document "press room" for a number of organizations in my town.
The public category, sub-category and album structure is
media type (images, documents, audio/video)
- organization
- artist or event album
Currently, user logins can only create new albums within their login name "category" which is itself within User Galleries, or
User Galleries
- login (organization)
- artist or event album
So, the problem is that with a lot of organizations and a lot of events (as well as user desire to nest their own categories within categories), the User Gallery structure loses parity with the main category structure. User created albums can always/only be created in one area (category), and always at exactly the same hierarchy level.
The only current method to accomplish what I'm trying to do is for me, as admin, to create each and every artist/event album for every organization - organized hierarchically and sequentially according to each organization's desires - and set it for each user group to have access to edit it (assigning one user to one group - then assigning album content admin rights to that group).
At a "more easily approachable level," the category admin module at a user level - to function at/within the User Galleries -> Login "category" would be a useful and lower impact workaround semi-solution here.
What would actually be perfect, though, is the ability to have category admin for the main categories by users (not admins only) - through assigning "category sub-tree admin" for each category sub-tree to specific user groups.
So, I know that this request has been bouncing around Coppermine's forums for many years - and I expect that there are some logistical nightmares.
I'd like to request this feature.
I'd also like to know if any other users out there would like to speak up in support of request for this feature.
And, please post links/let me know if anyone has any creative workarounds that they've used to tackle a similar issue.
