Backing up Gallery Folder
« on: August 10, 2006, 05:32:45 pm »

Hi I regularly back up the gallery folder via FTP but recently have found that thumbnail pictures created are no longer in the folder also the more pictures I add the more they disappear?

Obviously if I need to move the gallery I need all the pictures for it to work properly, any advise would be great, thanks.

More detail please, can you give us direct link to lost thumbnails or can you post a link to lost picture under gallery?

Sorry I obviously didn't explain properly the thumbnail is showing on the actual gallery here:
http://www.simply-the-best-online.me.uk/gallery/

but the latest uploaded picture which then creates a normal size and a thumbnail size the thumbnail size doesn't appear in the folder albums/userpics/10001 when I download it for back up.

If you have them under gallery but not in backup then you should check your backup (FTP client I think ) application and try to backing up again.
also if you are using batch add then all your files (thumbnails, intermediate, normal) are under orginal folder that you create for ftp

They aren't in the userpics folder?

Do as bmossavari suggested then and post a deep link to one of the files that appear to be missing.

here is an example :
To use batch add feature you need to create a folder under albums folder , let's say it's name is folder1 then you put all your file under that folder and add them with batch add feature , batch add function did not tuch that files and also create thumbnails and intermadiate file inside folder1 so if you are looking for thumbnails of this type of files then you should look at the folder1

No that didn't work as it's not what I mean.

I'll try and explain a bit more.

When you are logged in at the gallery and you upload your pictures
and put them in the albums you have created it automatically creates a normal
size and a thumbnail size as well, these are then all in a folder on the server.

Every so often I like to download that folder so I know I've got a back up of all the
pictures.

For a while when downloading all the pictures are there including the one I uploaded,
a normal size and a thumbnail size.

It seems when there are quite a few in this folder which is called 10001 for some reason
the thumbnail pictures have vanished but they are still showing in the gallery on the server,
on uploading even more some of the normal ones then vanish from the folder but are still
showing up in the gallery on the server.

My point is if I need to move the gallery to a new server once the database is installed
I then need to upload all the pictures that are in the folder 10001 that I downloaded from
the old server to create the gallery again but if half of them are missing all I get is a
white square with a red cross in it.

Your webhost is probably limiting the number of files that are displayed to your FTP client. It will say so in your FTP client if you look at the messages from the server. If you can only see exaclty 1000 files for example then this is likely the case.

I don't think you mentioned what FTP client you are using, so it's hard to know. Refer to its documentation.
