here is one made with Adobe Illustrator

converting a vector based graphic to a web image format (bit map) will cause some 'jagging' of round shapes

Not to be rude or anything, but I prefer the current logo. First, It looks much cleaner without all those shadows and stuff. Also, the proportions seem right.

Finally, I think the major change in the logo is the picture on the left, which IMO is excellent. I think that should be considered maciek's intellectual property and I don't think it's polite to go around modifying something that somebody else created. How would you feel if someone tried changing your work of art and tried to replace it? I know maciek won't mind us using this logo, since he has already made it clear that he made this for coppermine, but please show some respect when using his work. If you have some comments on his logo, why don't you contact him directly and give him your suggestions on improving it, instead of posting here. No matter how many things you dislike about the current logo, it is still somebody else's work, and we should all learn to respect that. Right?

Right!

In fact it took me a while to realise that the new logo was not the work of the original artist. Though maciek placed this in an implied Creative Commons license it would have been best if he was consulted...

That brings me to the point

maciek can I have the logo in the original format - what did you use?

I want to play with it....

  ah well, I was only trying to help and inject some thoughts into this. Perhaps you can't see the white 'spots' under the first 'p' and the 'e' in 'Coppermine' and the white spots at the bottom of the photos and magnifying glass in the present logo. And maciek said himself that he was surprised that you liked it so much.

I thought you were looking for input from those interested. In no way did I intend to infringe on anyones 'intellectual property'.

Perhaps I can't understand English too well,  as it is not my native language, but GauGau posted several messages inviting people to help design banners and buttons. Perhaps you should make it clear what the criteria are and that you may want input only from certain people!

This is what GauGau wanted:

This is what we need:
- button 80 x 31
- button 88 x 31
- mini-banner 156x60
- half-size banner 234x60
- full-size banner 468x60

The current logo is 297 x 72 pixels! So, where does that fit in?

Instead of trying to modify - why dont you make a completely new design?

It is not the question of only certain people being allowed - it is question of what is right

" it is question of what is right"

why don't we get some input from maciek on this subejct. we are only taking about a simple logo, not the creation of a 'nulclear warhead'. the job to make a logo takes 5 to 10 minutes at the most!

I was only trying to improve some of the flaws in maciek's design. that did not mean to shoot him down and certainly not deprive him of his 'intellectual property'.

with your kind of silly comments I am not going to be a supporter but just a user. don't even bother to reply!

It cannot be considered maciek's intellectual property since this is simply Apple's Preview application's icon (from Mac OS X)... You can see the icon on the right side of this page :

Hey thanks for pointing out - I guess then it will be *owned* by Apple...

Gaugau - please remove the Logo and put the old one back - we cannot have it if parts of it are copy righted / obviously used without permission :(

done - the old logo is in place...

@all: we could still need your participation with graphics, but please make sure that you do not use other material than your own, especially not copyrighted material - it'll be discovered sooner or later.

Noticed you were looking for some graphics, so I hit up some of my old graphics and photos and played around in Photoshop. Let me know if this is the kind of stuff your looking for. (all original work) Font is Ghicago.

Yes this is the kind of stuff we are looking for... Thanks

I would however prefer variety in pictures eg: 1 car, 1 animal/flower, 1 monument instead of all 4 of people

I wish others would also commment on the banners

I think it would be cool of the "Copper" text was .... you know.... colored copper.  I am a terrible judge of art, but I prefer simplicity over flashiness.

Using Photoshop. I added a bit more radius to the corners.

Might look cool with the 'Copper' copper, but I dont think I could come up with a color or texture that would look right.

If you want to play with the .psd files you can get 'em at:

One other suggestion....I am not a big fan of the current text "Your photo's on your website".  I cannot think of anything better right now, but for some reason it seems too wordy.

I think I would leave exact wording up to you guys. Its sort of a personal preference. I added a link to the .psd's above, feel free to edit the text to your liking.

Maybe something like.

- Your PHP photo gallery
- Your online photo album
or so on. Could be cool but you should decide in the end.

How about

"Your Website, Your Photos"

"Your online photo album" isn't exactly true anymore... it's more like "Your superdy duper online photo management system and kitchen sink!"

May not be quite within the tastes of a "generic" audience, but was having a little fun and thought I'd post it.  The "eye" graphic is a shameless web rip, but permission may possibly be gotten for its use, and it's not a tough one to replace if not.
