missing folders
« on: August 02, 2006, 10:53:37 am »

ok i got some help from a previous thread i posted
http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=34468.0

i downloaded a full backup of my site, with the CPG folder in it
the gallery its suppose to be in a folder called "photos", inside photos theres an directory called "albums"
but inside the album directory only 13 folders appeared, and in my actual gallery i have around 200 folders or more
but theres this "userpics" folder that has like 90% of my gallery
so its like i have all the gallery files but iam missing most of the folders
iam completely lost at this point.

any help will be appreciated : /

There is no direct correlation between Coppermine albums and folders on the server. As long as you have the directory and file structure complete then you have all the pics, regardless of what albums they are in.

As long as the permissions are set properly for the folders you upload, and the MySQL user and password are correct, you should be OK.

thanks for the reply eruss

one question though what does this mean: "As long as the permissions are set properly for the folders you upload"

is that something i have to do before i upload the directory to my new host?

I guess it depends on how you restore the backup.  (I'm talking about the php files and albums, not the DB.)  Will you just use FTP to upload the old gallery data?  If so, then follow the installation instructions to make sure the permissions are set properly so you can add/edit photos again.

http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#how

If you are using a utility to backup and restore your site, I don't know if it will maintain the proper permissions.

Just use it as a reference for setting the permissions.  Once uploaded, with permissions set, then restore your database.
