Using Coppermine with files stored in Photobucket.
« on: July 18, 2006, 12:05:17 am »

I'm looking to set up a Coppermine gallery, but cannot really afford significant webspace to accomodate all of my pictures.

I am currently hosting them with Photobucket, and all the images on my site are displayed via a URI link from Photobucket itself.

I'm wondering is it at all possible to do this with Coppermine? Having pictures in your gallery that are hosted in Photobucket for example?

No, remote storage is not supported. Has been asked frequently. There is free webhosting available, and there's a thread on the very board you posted that will help you decide for a free webhost with the minimum requirements. But after all, you get what you pay for: paid webhosting starts from $0.50 a month - not too much, should even be possible on a tight budget. If you have no budget at all, then I suggest reviewing the whole idea of putting content online: do you have to contribute something that people might actually find interresting enough to visit your site if you're not even ready to spend some dimes for it?

Ah right Ok, thanks for clearing that up. I'll keep looking, I'm sure there's something out there I can afford.

The page you refered to is down for me. We're aware that you can code workarounds, but they still don't get supported by us, as remote storage hacks could (and would) be abused by people stealing bandwidth, which we don't want to encourage. Has been discussed in various threads already - please search the board if you want details. Anyway, you're of course welcome to post your mod/hack.
