  Well I was somehow able to Install Fedora Core4 with Appache webserver MYSql and install and up date PHP. Unfortunately after I compile all the files for Image Magick and try to open and test image magick logo I get. I already ran the compile the make and make install after untarring. It  seems to go through fine.

The following line doesn't do anything and returns a blank command line.

Why? when i just use local host I get the apache start page. I can also log int mysql databases.

I have no idea if there is a problem with php or even where to begin trouble shooting it. Please somebody anybody help. I used an article in fedora news to configure php manually and it seemed to work fine. I even did yum updates of apache mysql and php. Please someone tell me what to do next

This is not an issue that is being discussed or supported on the Coppermine forums. We expect that ImageMagick or GD have already been set up and are running on your webserver. If you have issues to get ImageMagick running, go to ImageMagick's support board.
If you want easy setup, go for GD, which should come bundled with PHP already.

Sidenote: we don't recommend self-hosting at all.

See that's the beauty of open source it gives people the opportunity to learn.
That's also what test environments are for. to build webservers for your own knowledge so you can do it commercially when you know how. If I rely on web hosts to host for me I'm not a real it person. I also will never learn how.
I am a network admin who has set up nt servers,now I'm trying to learn Linux.
thanks for suggesting GD. unfortunately it is also a big pain to compile. I'm still looking for a simplified step by step guide to gd. does anyone know of any. I searched through over a hundred forums in the last few days and nothing has help me successfully install gd.

You don't need to compile GD. If you installed the php package from yum then just install the php-gd package too, or the imagemagick package. This isn't a good place for server setup help, we 'rely' on webhosts too.
