Calling random images from Gallery to main web page

I have my photo gallery set upon a subdomain (gallery.mydomain.com - also www.mydoamain.com/gallery). It is an integral part of a larger website. What I'd like to do is call about 4 random images from the gallery to my main web page (mydomain.com).

The thing is, I'm sure this is an easy, easy thing to do but my brain is just not clicking on this one.

Any kind should will to point me in the right direction?
