install phpMyAdmin or mySqlDumper by yourself then, don't trust pre-installed stuff from your webhost. We don't know your webhost's control panel, so we can't recommend anything else. If you want to use their control panel, you better ask them about issues you have with it.

Someone had the same problem as you... can't access the db of "preinstalled" scripts. Try searching for godaddy here and see if the user figured it out.

If you're using GoDaddy and their Linux hosting then phpMyAdmin (v 2.7.0-p12) is installed and you can backup your database with it because I do it all the time. Maybe you should try reading the documentation here on CPG or check out the phpMyAdmin site. I know for a fact that there is nice instructions on this site that explains how to do it because I've used them.

PS. Since you are bashing, I won't give you the links. Go look them up yourself.

Did you read the manual first???? Taking 2 minutes to backup your files can save you hours of wondering what you screwed up.

I decided to contact GoDaddy with a customer support request on their website and got a response within 2 hours. I would say that's pretty good turn around time. Below is the history of the request and response. As it turns out, if you use GoDaddy's software installer, it installs the datebase by default and you can't access it. I agree, that's ridiculous but what can I say, I would never let a hosting service install software for me. Also, I checked the "Value Added Software" section and it seems GoDaddy has removed Coppermine from the list. Maybe that's a good thing but that's how I found out about CPG.

I hope this is useful to everyone.

Cheers,

Billy

Support Staff Response
Dear Billy,

Thank you for contacting customer support. If an application is installed using our free value application installer, a database is created by default. However, this database cannot be accessed in any way, including thru the use of our phpMyAdmin Control Panel. If a user requires custom access to the application or the database for the application, they must manually install the application themselves.

Unfortunately, Go Daddy cannot provide support for manual installation of scripts or applications. If you are encountering an error, you will need to contact the developer of the application for further resolution to these matters. We do apologize if this may cause any inconvenience.

Please let us know if we can help you in any other way.

Customer Inquiry

**********************************************

Question:
Hi,

I belong to the Coppermine Photo Gallery which I found through GoDaddy
over a year ago when I signed up for a host plan. I didn't install
Coppermine using your installer but downloaded and installed it myself
from the Coppermine site. Mainly to learn the software but because I was
sure you wouldn't have the latest version. There has been a number of
unhappy GoDaddy customers posting on the Coppermine Gallery complaining
that they can't access or backup their database. I think most of them
used your Value Added Software installer so my question to you is "if a
customer installs software using GoDaddy's Value Added Software
installer, does the database get created automatically and if so, can
the customer access this database using the phpMyAdmin control panel to
make changes and backups?" I have been using GoDaddy for years now and
I'm very happy with the service so I'm trying to help out these people
with some correct information.

Thank you for your time.
