FTP Support For user Uploads
« on: April 16, 2006, 09:54:31 am »

How about adding the ability to configure ftp support for user uploads. Where you in the admin panel would enter your ftp information and can choose to use ftp for uploads and downloads. I think this could be really helpful for when users want to upload large files such as video.

Just an Idea,
Angel

allowing users to upload by FTP would be a huge security risk unless the server is hardened against possible FTP attacks and is therefor not being considered.

I don't think you understand what I'm saying (my fault I'm not a great communicator)  I'm saying that you could have it so you enter your ftp info in the admin control panel and then decide in the admin control panel whether or not when users upload it be by way of ftp or by using regular upload methods in the script. I don't mean to allow the users to choose ftp upload or not.

basically say I have a website but I want to host the files elsewhere I could enter my ftp information in the admin control panel (ie.. server address and password along with the folder I want the files stored in on the server.. as well as the ftp address to the files) then when the user uploads files they are actully being transferred via ftp.

I hope I'v explained the better.

OK, this is a matter of understanding technology and terms then. FTP stands for "File Transfer Protocol" and is a standard that explains how files are being moved to or from the server. So you don't "specify a FTP". What you're requesting is remote storage of pics, has been asked for quite often already and has been turned down just as often.
