Optimizing to save space
« on: March 28, 2006, 08:38:59 pm »

I'm just setting up coppermine and will be uploading thousands of sports pictures over the summer so want to save as much space as possible.

Is it best to batch optimize all pics before uploading? If so, is there a program that does this well?

Yes, you should resize your pics on your client before uploading them. There are loads of apps, both free and paid ones. There's a tutorial available that explains how to batch-resize pics using Irfan View, but as I said: this is a matter of taste and budget. However, the resulting file sizes won't differ that much, you can safely use IrfanView if webspace is the only thing you're concerned about.
