Scan for virus on upload!
« on: March 06, 2006, 08:56:59 pm »

I think Coppermine is a very powerful tool and I know it can be even more powerful, how about setting up a mod or add to coppermine the ability to scan for virus on upload, also the ability to members upload mp3 and stream them.  I guess make it a bit more compatible with lot more file types and have a central area for members to stream music ect.  Well I don't know if this is to much or a dream, but I just wanted to add my 2 cents and thank you for your wonderful program.

  • Coppermine isn't and can't be a virus scanner. There are no virus scanners on webservers afaik (at least the majority of them that run Lunix). Users definitely won't be using their client virus scanners deliberately before upload.
  • You should only allow upload of files that can't contain viruses (like images). You mustn't allow them to upload scripts or executables
  • Coppermine already supports mp3
  • Streaming requires a special server setup that 99% of all coppermine users don't have
  • We have a "one issue per thread" policy that applies to feature requests as well

I wasn't sure wether to mark this request as "invalid" or "turned down", chose the second option.
