Instead of changing number of thumbnails to be displayed in the slide show view in config..
and not being able to see all the pics in the thumbnail view
and clicking on the end thumb-pic to re-fresh the whole page to load new thumbs... can't we have a scroll bars instead?

I guess you're refering to the film-strip feature instead of the slide show. Your request will not go into the core code, so I'm marking it as "tunred down", but there are mods that can accomplish what you're asking for. A higher number of thumbnails in the film strip will increase the page load though, I wouldn't recommend that.
