Error when creating a new user
« on: February 07, 2006, 01:42:13 am »

Hi Folks

I have coppermine v1.4.3 running on IIS 6, mysql 5.0.1.5, when I log in as the default administrator account and then go to User manager, when I click on the button for "Create new user" I get the error "There was an error while processing a database query".

Is there an error log somewhere I can check to see if there is a more clues as to what the problem in, the error message is a bit "unhelpful".

To get detailed error messages you should enable debug mode in config and then try to create a user again.

Thanks Nibbler for the tip,

the error is :

While executing query "INSERT INTO cpg143_users(user_regdate, user_active) VALUES (NOW(), 'YES')" on 0
mySQL error: Field 'user_password' doesn't have a default value

user_password does have a default value.

Code: [Select]
  user_password varchar(40) NOT NULL default '',
Take a look at the cpg143_users table and make sure it matches the schema.

Code: [Select]
CREATE TABLE CPG_users (
  user_id int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment,
  user_group int(11) NOT NULL default '2',
user_active enum('YES','NO') NOT NULL default 'NO',
  user_name varchar(25) NOT NULL default '',
  user_password varchar(40) NOT NULL default '',
  user_lastvisit datetime NOT NULL default '0000-00-00 00:00:00',
  user_regdate datetime NOT NULL default '0000-00-00 00:00:00',
  user_group_list varchar(255) NOT NULL default '',
  user_email varchar(255) NOT NULL default '',
  user_profile1 varchar(255) NOT NULL default '',
  user_profile2 varchar(255) NOT NULL default '',
  user_profile3 varchar(255) NOT NULL default '',
  user_profile4 varchar(255) NOT NULL default '',
  user_profile5 varchar(255) NOT NULL default '',
user_profile6 text NOT NULL default '',
  user_actkey varchar(32) NOT NULL default '',

  PRIMARY KEY  (user_id),
  UNIQUE KEY user_name (user_name)
) TYPE=MyISAM;

Hi

in my last post I hope you didn't think it was me that said "Field 'user_password' doesn't have a default value", it was actually part of the error message  ;).

If my cpg143_users table does not match your example do I delete the table and run your example as a query to generate the table correctly?

Many thanks

No, you would lose all your users. That is an example to show what the table is meant to look like. You can add a default value for user_password by running

Code: [Select]
ALTER TABLE `cpg143_users` CHANGE `user_password` `user_password` varchar(40) NOT NULL default ''

Right i've ran the above and it "1 row affected",  so i've logged back in as administrator, tried to create a new user and got the following:

While executing query "INSERT INTO cpg143_users(user_regdate, user_active) VALUES (NOW(), 'YES')" on 0
mySQL error: Field 'user_profile6' doesn't have a default value

But I figured out what was wrong when comparing 'user_profile5' with 'user_profile6' , the 'user_profile5' was set to varchar(255) but 'user_profile6' was set to TEXT.

It now seems to be working but I am very confused as to why I have had these errors when I did a clean install, I deleted my old database & old files and rebuilt the gallery from the new coppermine v1.4.3 installation files.

I just found out why the 'user_profile6`was set to  TEXT, in the update.sql file there is a line that says ALTER TABLE `CPG_users` CHANGE `user_profile6` `user_profile6` TEXT NOT NULL;

user_profile6 is supposed to be TEXT, it is longer than the others so it can be used to enter a biography or similar.

Really ????? well when i changed the user_profile6 to match user_profile5, the following error vanished:

Code: [Select]
While executing query "INSERT INTO cpg143_users(user_regdate, user_active) VALUES (NOW(), 'YES')" on 0
mySQL error: Field 'user_profile6' doesn't have a default value

I'm very confused now, i think it might be work deleting it all and reinstalling it unless someone could fix the database for me, could email a backup of it to someone  :D

I had the exact same problem so I changed the field from NOT NULL to NULL and that seemed to do the trick.

user_profile6 text NOT NULL default '',
now reads:
user_profile6 text NULL default '',

Thanks,

I have the same error when trying to create a new user. The command suggested by Nibbler :

ALTER TABLE `cpg143_users` CHANGE `user_password` `user_password` varchar(40) NOT NULL default ''

Does not seem to work - the command promt changed to show it's expecting something else (>). This may be 'cause I'm doing something wrong as I am very much a newbie, but I've cut and paster it to try and make sure it's correct. This error did not occure when I was runnig 1.4.3 - hence there must be something in 1.4.5? Interesting to see that all the files are called 1.4.3 still! I've used the checker which reports all files are ok.

Here is my error detail which is similar (the error itself is the same) as the original in this thread: I do hope someone will look to the end of this thread and help!

While executing query "INSERT INTO cpg143_users(user_regdate, user_active) VALUES (NOW(), 'YES')" on 0

mySQL error: Field 'user_password' doesn't have a default value
