Reaching Limits
« on: November 27, 2005, 08:41:45 am »

I have this relative Large Virtual Musem using Coppermine.

http://gallery.webhorology.com/index.php

It has gotten extremely difficult adding and editing Categories, Sub-Categories and uploading Pictures to Albums. I use Dial Up at home and the time lag is extensive.

I am using version 1.4.1 loaded from here.

The only work-a-round I have found for adding pictures is Batch uploads.

You are running into a dial-up limitation.  There isn't anything we can do to help you.  As the admin you should always use batch-add.

I really like Coppermine and have used it exclusively on my Web Space. I plan on adding several hundred more Categories/sub-categories and thousands more pictures.

Please consider making the editing of Categories, sub-categories, a (click, move, drop) function to reorganize after installing. Why rebuild the whole when you move one step? a one step reordering process would be great.

The other recommendation is to make it where when a new Album is installed that the uploads are auto added to that album when you are in that album. Trying to find one Album out of HUNDREDS for each picture is a chore to install three to ten pictures.

I have no option other than Dial Up at the present time. Anyway using cPanel or ftp, Dialup has been no problem.

I am using version 1.4.1 loaded from here.
Upgrade to the stable release cpg1.4.2 then, the beta cpg1.4.1 goes unsupported. Not related to your issue though.

Depending on whether you add titles, descriptions, and the like to every single photo or not, I would suggest using a add-on script "timer.php" which was developed by Nibbler & donnoman & flux in this thread:
http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=13949

This script is not bulletproof, so you might have issues with it, but it's developing into a great add-on script which requires no mods to the core scripts.  I use it routinely to mostly great success and the times when it fails, I figure it out and add a mod to timer.php or fix my structure.

The latest version is in this message:
http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=13949.msg105809#msg105809
and works in both 1.4.x and 1.3.x (even though the image thingey on the thread only says 1.3.x probably because the first message only works in 1.3.x).

Make sure you read the thread completely and if you decide to try it, test it out first on a simple structure in albums (maybe in a test installation).  I think if you can get it working and do things carefully, it might work very well in your case (using dialup).  But right now it's a user-mod and goes unsupported (formally).

Well, Keep up the good work and I do hope you consider my remarks as a compliment.

Take a look at my Index and you will see the difficulty I am having with adding more categories and adding pictures to albums.

Thank You.

A PROUD abuser of Coppermine.
