Coppermine in comparison with Gallery
« on: November 15, 2005, 01:45:05 pm »

The movie about posting is old so I have seen it.
Is not this site a tad slow...?

Anyway,
I have a gallery setup at www.hwshots.hwaccess.net and I find it strange there are only very few "skins" for Gallery.
That is why I pay You at Coppermine this visit.  :D

The current layout is based on a Gallery "skin" but via CSS we altered some colours. Some more things might need tampering with so I wonder if coppermine might be easier to costumize, not colour-wise, but layout-wise.

I will be happy to fill in with more info if requested, but it would be interesting to see if anyone else had these same considerations.

Thank You.

why don't you download a copy of coppermine and take a look at the themeing? I don't know if customizing coppermine is easier than customizing gallery, as I have never tried to customize a menalto gallery install. Customizing coppermine seems pretty easy to me, but then I may just be snowblind, as I know my way around in coppermine.
The basic layout is being controlled by coppermine_folder/themes/yourtheme/template.html

Not sure what else to reply...

 ;D

I am currently doing a test setup with Coppermine.

One feature I immediately will lack is a nifty "multi-upload" java applet that comes with Gallery.
I am now looking for something similar among Mods and addons for Coppermine.

First impression is good. Feels better and easier to configure than Gallery.

Not really, thats way more advanced than needed.

I mean the "upload Applet" which is also Java, but integrated with drag and drop support and available for anyone with granted access.

Picture attched.

@HOMY,

How customizable is Coppermine?

Check this site out.  It doesn't look like a coppermine setup. In fact, except for the gallery page, you wouldn't think it was coppermine, at all. You would think it was a CMS setup with bbs bridged and CPG embeded.  Actually, the theme is original,  there is no CMS, the bbs is built-in using the mini-bbs mod in the mod section here, and the viper guestbook was added on. Alll 15 pages are being generated dynamically by the Coppermine 1.4.2 scripting engine.    This is a pretty good example of theme modification without CMS or bridging.  This is the power of coppermine.

You can also check out the 85 or so various user contributed themes available for download for 1.35 that can be modifed to work with 1.4x demos by clicking on the DEMO link at the top of this forum.

Actually, the demo link in above menu has changed - it's now pointing to the cpg1.4.x demo. If you want to take a look at the cpg1.3.x demo, click here: http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg13x/
