central box forced in some browsers
« on: August 16, 2005, 01:25:09 pm »

Hello,

I have made quite a few changes to my template but notice the central box is wider and overlaps the buttons in some browsers, such as Safari and IE. It is okay in FIrefox. Would someone take a look and give me some suggestions please. it is http://www.stockshoots.co.uk

Thanks for any help at all.

That's a known issue when using css property "float". If the content gets to wide, most browsers panic and do funny stuff, like making content overlap. You might want to take a look at http://glish.com/css/ and the stuff linked from there.

thanks.

this does seem to be ongoing as I need to look into it in more depth. tonight this looks okay on my screen in Safari but not in IE, so I think I'll have to get other things ready first then do tweaks to make this work.

as sad as it may sound: today's browsers are not ready for tableless design imo - using css in the way you do is the recommended solution, but you will experience that users of "exotic" browsers will not see the page as desired. If you want to accomplish a look that is nearly the same for everyone, you will have to use tables, I'm afraid.

Sorry if this sound stupid, but I don't know what I did to make this problem. I have changed the amount of width of the table, which helps. I presume that is what you mean.

if so, don't worry as I think I have sorted this out and thanks for your help.
