EXIF and IPTC - no caption displayed
« on: August 12, 2005, 07:31:28 pm »

Just installed CPG for the first time. Chose to try CPG over Gallery for the IPTC support. Although, with IPTC and EXIF enabled in the config page, I still get no captions, keywords, ect. when uploading a photo. Can anyone suggest what I may be doing wrong, or something else to look at as a source of the problem?

Many thanks

The data doesn't get entered into the caption or keywords, it is just displayed below the pic.

The pic http://www.sporttreffer.de/galerie/albums/userpics/1f.jpg doesn't contain EXIF or IPTC data. This meta information has to exist within the file before you upload it, Coppermine only displays exif data if the pic actually contains some. Take a look at a tool like Exifer.

yes, you`re right. this pic doesn't contain EXIF-information. I only have one pic now in my gallery with EXIF-informations to test ist.

or check this link: http://www.sporttreffer.de/galerie/albums/userpics/test.jpg

everything is displayed, but not the description. the description has to show following text (you can alos see this in the EXIF-information):
05.08.2005, Fußball, Kandesliga Süd, Sportfreunde Seligenstadt - Viktoria Urberach, der koreanische Schiedsrichter-Assistent Foto: Sascha Eyßen www.lokalfoto.de Dieburger Str. 83 63322 Rödermark

can you help me now??

many thanks

There mustn't be a file named test.jpg in the userpics folder. Do not touch the userpics folder using your FTP app, the folder is meant to contain http uploads only. FTP-upload somewhere else. Regarding the description: either enter it into coppermine's decription field (not related to exif or iptc), or use a third-party app on your desktop that can modify exif data of a pic before you upload. However, the current stable coppermine version is only capable to display some of the exif fields - the next coppermine version cpg1.4.x (which is still under development) will contain an exif manager that enables you to decide which exif fields will be shown with the pics. It would have been more helpfull anyway if you would have posted a deep link to the coppermine page that holds your pic with the korean referee instead of just attaching the pic. You post deep links like this: http://www.sporttreffer.de/galerie/displayimage.php?pos=-175 (example for your above mentioned pic, as posting links to relative positions taken from meta albums will change). That's what the url field in the pic info section is for.
