Thanks for your effort to contribute. However, you must never post an admin account on a public board. It's a huge security risk, even on a demo gallery, as it could be used to ruin your entire site. I have changed the password for the account you posted and sent it to you by PM.
It's also advisable to use the demo in utf-8 mode and not to bundle the entire coppermine package with your language file, but to publish only your language file. Downloading the file from your site was extremely slow for me and failed, so I had to restart several times (it seems like you're self-hosted or your webhost has issues). As I don't speak Thai, it was rather hard to find the download link for your language.
Could you please zip up just your language file and attach it to your posting (using "additional options" when composing your message)? Thanks

Joachim

As suggested in the very first posting of this thread, we prefer language contributions to be attached to this thread instead of external links, emails or similar. Anyway, looked into the file but discovered that you have used some "strange" encoding. As suggested in the translator's guide, you should use utf-8 encoding. I tried converting it, but I'm not sure if this works as expected, please check the demo. Find the file here: http://coppermine.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/coppermine/trunk/stable/lang/thai.php

Hi there!
although I have used CPG many times, now I want to translate it in Catalan.

Is there a possibility to have a previous version of the translation (maybe 1.2.x), so I don't have to start from scratch?

Thanks and good work!  :)

Sure, just download the old package (cpg1.3.5) and extract the Catalan language file from it. Please note though: don't use the cpg1.3.x language file as a base, adding strings to it. Do it the other way around instead: use the cpg1.4.10 English language file and translate it one line by one - you may open the outdated language file in another editor window though and have a glance at it from time to time. The reason why we recommend this method is that only this way we can make sure that none of the needed lines get ommitted by mistake. For details on the recommended method to translate, please review the translator's guide mentioned in the very first posting of this thread.

I've made some corrections to dutch.php.

  • replaced ë with ë
  • replaced é with ´
  • replaced catagorie with categorie
  • replaced x-symbol with x (height x width)

I hope I found everything :)

You're not suppossed to - in utf-8, the umlauts are perfectly OK to have, you shouldn't use html equivalents.

Why use dependant codes while there are standards?
I had to check everything because it didn't show up right on my system.
dutch.php will mostly be used on/by Dutch people I guess and they won't have all utf-8.

You don't have to use my file, I made it for myself and thought it could be usefull for others.

Why use dependant codes while there are standards?
utf-8 is a standard, and it's recommended by the w3c.

I had to check everything because it didn't show up right on my system.
Then you set something up improperly in the first place and instead of fixing it you tried to find a workaround. You drew the wrong conclusions, I'm afraid. Use the original file and set encoding to utf-8 (unicode) in coppermine's config. For details, start another thread, as this isn't actually a support thread.

dutch.php will mostly be used on/by Dutch people I guess and they won't have all utf-8.
Trust me: everyone has utf-8. In your browser, it may be labelled "unicode". Out of the box, all major browsers are set to display utf-8 encoded pages by default (automatic encoding). It's part of the HTML standards - you define an encoding in the header, and nearly all browsers (IE4 or better, Firefox, Opera, Safari etc.) recognize the encoding and display them automatically.

You don't have to use my file, I made it for myself and thought it could be usefull for others.
I'm aware that I don't have to use your file, thanks. I just replied for the benefit of others, to make sure that others don't use your file as a workaround for their encoding issues. When using your file, you'll run into issues sooner or later.

As suggested above: if you want to find out more details, start a thread of your own on the support board. If you think that my advice doesn't apply to you and want to use your modified version, then go ahead and use it at your own risk.

I've started translating Coppermine's FAQ and documentation in Italian: is this something useful? Can I go on?

Yes, this is very welcome - please go ahead. We're looking forward to your translation. As an example, you might review the french translation of the docs that go with the coppermine package.
The most important is the actual documentation, the FAQ is less important in our opinion. However, we'd of course love to see both documents.

Lengthy discussion about the translation into Hindi has been split into a separate thread.
