I'm playing with a different version of Jupload maintaned by someone other than the sourceforge project.
It's pretty interesting. If I continue with developement of it, I'll make it a plugin for 1.4, but I don't see us replacing the existing upload functionality since it does require javascript.
But you know maybe not, with the incorporation of Ajax and resources like google maps, and the explosive growth of Ajax apps, users remaining with no Javascript will be missing out on some really compelling web content. Java is making its way to being mandatory, and blocking it for security reasons is becoming more and more costly to the user. There may be some point in the future where we say we don't care that your ghetto browser doesn't support Java... shutup, upgrade, and be happy.... but were not quite there yet
