Generate thumbnails of movies
« on: June 08, 2005, 10:19:52 pm »

Could you please add support for auto-generation of thumbnails for movie files? There is a project on sourceforge (FFMPEG-PHP) that may help this request:

http://ffmpeg-php.sourceforge.net/

Thanks,
Mark

We've discussed it and because not all servers support that functionality, we cannot include it in the core code. However, it will be welcomed as a hack or plug-in.

"NO SUPPORT" on the Features Request Board.

That should be clear enough.  If you feel that Coppermine's forum is the best place to ask for support for this question, post on the correct board.  But I strongly encourage you to use a better (non-Coppermine) forum to ask such a question.

The project the thread starter mentions makes a certain library / extension mandatory on the server that hardly exists on webhosted servers. Coppermine's target audience are people on "regular" webhosting, so this will not go into coppermine's core code. We'd love to see a contribution (preferably as a plugin) that makes this an optional component, but (as I said) it will not go into the core.
The project the original thread starter refered to does not add the capability to coppermine to create thumbnails from videos, the necessary code in coppermine hasn't been created yet. It's only a theoretic hack that could be accomplished if anyone was ready to look into this. The dev team won't, so this goes unsupported anyway.

I did see the no support ---but just commented on the good Idea----hoping one of the members would have tried it already and have it up and working---I was not asking Coppermine's staff to do it or even support it.  but thanks for the warm welcome to your forum

That's not how I understood your posting - saying
anyone know how I can get this to work
looks like you're asking questions to me, which equals asking for support.
