Eyeball theme...Any Suggestions??
« on: May 05, 2005, 07:04:56 pm »

Hi,

I wanted 'eyeball' theme as my theme of choice but I needed to be able to put some sort of gallery logo and also a link back to my member page in what is a very small amount of header space available with this theme.

I located the two gray (65 x 42)  .gifs on either side of the blue button links as the best candidates for some small text design with at least one of the two .gifs attached to a link back. All went well, put some text on each .gif and linked one back to my member page.

example:

<td width="27%"
background="themes/eyeball/images/top_background_r1_c7.gif">

<a title="Member Area" href="http://www.mysite.com/gallery/memberpage.htm">
<img border="0" src="themes/eyeball/images/top_background_r1_c7.gif" width="65" height="42"></a></td>

<td width="22%"
background="themes/eyeball/images/old_top_background_r1_c7.gif">
</td>

--------------------------------------------

(as per above)

In the process I discovered that I had to use both the redesigned .gif and the old blank .gif in each area (total 4 .gifs) with the <td></td> being  split between the two .gifs on either side (ex: 27% for the text .gif & 22% for the blank .gif ...total 49% td width) because otherwise the text .gif would begin to repeat itself and look awful. Anyway, all seemed well...untill I clicked a language flag!

Yes, then my hours of handy work showed my hand as futile! The language flags have no respect for these little .gifs in eyeball...some flags will lose the left .gif, others the right, other again will have one .gif while the other .gif tries to make itself barely seen!

My only option is to either ditch the language options and just use English (which I don't really want to do) or work out somewhere else where I can put a text link back to my referring page and also a logo of some sort.

Does anyone know the procedure for how I can do this (perhaps top end of the page proper for instance...push galleries down the page)? Please let me know if you do...

My third option of course is to go for a completely new skin.  I don't really like any of the other ones that came with my 1.3.3 download. Do you know where I can get any others that go with 1.3.3 ? Also, is it possible to change the colors on let's say 'Hardwired' from gray to  say, blue for example? I may like it more if I can do something like that.

I will be grateful for any feedback to these questions from link referrals to a step by step for simpletons...

Thanks in advance,

 ;D

Hi OG,

THanks for getting back to me.

Yes, I checked out the link and tried to make some changes to the template.html, theme.php and css script etc but began to feel that I was possibly making things worse than they already were and so did another search instead and found http://tu2.net/cpg/index.php?cat=0 .

I PM'd him and hopefully he will get back to me on how he integrated the Home link into the home icon (albeit no registration link?), made room for a gallery description etc.

If you've got ideas on this please tell...

Regards,

The "he" is a "she", and I don't think Thu likes to be PMed >:(!
Post a link to your page instead of PMing others...

GauGau is right. I don't like to communicate via PMs when it could be done through the boards. It deprives other users of answers. I will reply to the PM here for that reason, and will include the original message so others know what I am replying to.

went to your eyeball skin and can see how you have integrated the 'Home' Link back to your Home page into your home icon along with FAQ, Login (can't see registration there though?).

I also see that you have no language flags up top (or at bottom?) but do have room for a description.

Basically I want to know how to do the same in cpg 1.3.3 (although wouldn't mind keeping the registration option and the flags at bottom if possible??)
....
The custom Home link is available in v.1.4. You can manually add your own in 1.3 by editing eyeball's theme.php

I disabled registration and the language flags in Config.

I don't know what description you are referring to.

Hi Thu,

Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry, I didn't know about the PM thing...didn't read it anywhere.

Anyway in the interest of not depriving anyone of answers and so that we are all on the same page here I may as well post my full PM to you as opposed to the abridged version:

Hi there,

Did a search and found your comments in a post or two. Checked out your cmp 1.4 preview, nice!

You can get an idea of the trouble I've been having to do something along these lines in my post:

http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=17650.0

It would be great to get some code and where to put it to make these changes (similar to what you have done...without messing with .gif temperamentals as I have done)...either by PM or in the above post if that's possible...

Regards,

 ;D

Ms (hope that is acceptable?) Thu, you say:

Yes, although my having said "...where to put it..." may make it seem otherwise,  I had gathered that it would be a matter of editing theme.php before I first contacted you. I am more concerned with where to put the...allusive code... in theme.php and I guess, how to do this?

By your answer should I understand that it is a matter of downloading v.1.4. copying the relevant code and pasting it into my 1.3.3 eyeball theme?

Is there a simpler way that you can think of... or am I on the right track here?

Look forward to your feedback.

Regards,

PS: Re: description I was referring to the description area in config that has visibility once the flags are removed from top of eyeball theme.

no, that's not the proper way.

There are plenty of postings that explain how to add a custom link to any theme.
