Keyword Database
« on: April 25, 2005, 12:01:00 pm »

Hi all,

have been using extensis portfolio for a long time and are in the process of migrating to coppermine (thx for everyones hard work - it is fantastic)

was wondering how hard it would be to introduce a user defined set of keywords & subkeywords with a one (image) to many (keywords) relationship - which would then be searchable from the search page

thx in advance

cheers

rick

not sure what you mean: each pic can already have multiple keywords (separated by spaces), and the keywords are being taken into account when searching. What exactly are you requesting?

thx for reply

current coppermine database has a one (album) to many (image) relationship

having a pre defined admin only settable group of keywords improves the integrity of any database - less keywords = better searches

but this would require a one (image) to many (keywords) relationship

eg.

image in "Home\Holidays\2005\Greece" that is say a picture of you lying on the beach could have keywords "beach, people, friends"

would require 2 new tables - one for keywords and a join table to image database

advantages = when searching as well as having free text, and drop down list could make available keywords used to help refine searches

cheers again

This already exists in 1.4 You can have the keywords displayed on the search page clickably.
