Category reshuffle

I need to change the layout of the main page. I need my categorys to be listed one beside the other.......and I need to remove the (album # and image #) columns.....can any1 help?

I take it that it's not possible to have the Aldum listings lined up side-by-side instead of up and down by the lack of responce!
