Upload Problems
« on: November 14, 2003, 10:49:19 am »

There are more and more errors on uploading pictures. Sometimes it works sometimes not.
My tests results that this is perhaps a timing problem with GD and

Create intermediate pictures

If I switch this to "no", the error is gone. Therefore the message "database error"  perhaps is not correct or the database record create is not at the ideal place. My knowledge of PHP is to bad to find this.

Could you be specific to what the errors are? More details about your CPG version (please post in the right forum), as well as server details. If you're using CPG1.2, you should have phpinfo.php - open that in your browser and see if GD has JPEG support, otherwise create your own.

Details, man! Details!

Details?

I posted this in "General Discussion for 1.2" --> Version 1.2
I posted this HERE because it is NOT a general bug, as sometimes works.
The error is, as posted ---> Database Error
A click on www should show you that there ARE many JPGs at this gallery.
Is there a GD-version without jpg-support??

Sorry. Your answer is strange and not very helpful.

actually your posting is a support request, so it belongs into that category - I'm going to move it there.
You can fully trust moorey, hey knows what he's talking about (and yes, there is GD without jpeg support  ).

Nice to read this. But I cannot understand what he's talking about and I am not a baby-DAU. Such "support answers" are the opposite of helpful. What can we do with this? Nothing.

I didn't mean to be unhelpful, but I can only work with the given info which is not much. There are people who use "www" for their homepages and not their galleries. You could mention that just as well (and that it also contains artistic nudity).

And yes, there can be a GD without jpeg support as Gaugau has mentioned. Can you please post your phpinfo.php output at http://www.menschen-foto.de/galerie/phpinfo.php ? That info would help the devs a lot.

I used to work in an ISP where people used to call support and say, "My internet's broken and has errors! Please fix it!" Can you suggest a better way to find solutions for your problem?

Norbert,

this is not a hotline for a commercial product, but a support board of volunteers all working for free in their spare time on this. I suggest you chose another tone of voice (especially as your not a newbie kid, but a grown-up we can ask you to do better).
Moorey's answer was professional, he suggested you should give more details (server os, server version, php version, webhosted or self-hosted, debug output, screen shots etc. pp. - see the faq on how to ask questions properly to get a fast answer). Do you think it's a fun thing to always start every reply to a support request with the same answer: "give us as many details as possible" ?

GauGau

P.S. I doubt that non-Germans know what a "DAU" is. Please use english expressions in your postings.

OK.
Let's try it. Perhaps it is a language problem. (Details, man! Details!)
And yes, I now also this people asking how to turn of the PC.
Also my first post was not a support question, but more a development tipp.

Here you find the php-info:
http://www.menschen-foto.de/galerie/phpinfo.gif

Since I have deactivated the creation of intermediate pictures all uploads works fine.

BTW.
The other problem at user list is still not solved:
