Can you view a users IP?
« on: March 09, 2005, 12:10:17 am »

Simple question. I have already searched and I  havent really found the answer.

Before I go installing this, I would just like to know if it gives the ability to see a user's IP address. To keep one user from having two accounts from the same location.

Thanks for your time in advance.

Not by default you can't. However, it shouldn't be too hard to add another table field to note the user's IP address.

That said, it's kind of useless. I can get another IP address just by unplugging my DSL modem for a little bit. Dialup users get new IP addresses everytime they go online.

internet provider, ip range, and location ( with a whois on ripe/arin/lacnic/apnic )  stay the same
add to the ip adress the os & the browser of the visitor, and you can recognize them ;)

The site admin can see the ip address of the user who uploaded photos, in the photo info, and a user who commented, in the comments.

No one else sees them.
