Prevent site mirroring
« on: February 16, 2005, 01:56:03 pm »

Hi,

Is there any way to stop people mirroring a gallery?

Can ratepic be prevented from access, assuming they diable the rules of obeying robots.txt?

Would they be able to retrieve any password information?

Are the strictest permissions Execute only, without inhibiting gallery operation?

Thanx  :)

you can only make it harder for leechers to do what they're up to, but you can not keep them from doing so. The only solution is not to publish things on the internet you don't want to see published. Another good option is to watermark pics before uploading them, so leechers can not easily claim your content to be theirs.
Disable rating for anonymous users to prevent spiders accessing it.
Another option to stop leechers (or make their "work" at least harder) is to require registration from your visitors to access the gallery at all (of course you will lose visitors this way).
You have to understand how mirroring software works: just the same way a browser works - it just follows all links and builds an index of your site. If you want to keep visitors from leeching, you have to make things harder for "regular" users browsing your page as well.
