Changing thumbnail of a flash movie?
« on: January 20, 2005, 01:12:59 pm »

I have a flash video but it comes up as flash as a thumbnail. Is it possible to replace the image for that file with a picture of my choice?

Replace thumb_swf.jpg with a picture the same size and to your liking.
Can be found in the images folder in the root of coppermine.

For changing the thumbnail of just 1 video the info in the manuall should work.

Upload a movie and batch-add it. Then upload a thumbnail with exactly the same name and also batch-add it.

So for example. homevideo.avi is the movie file. Upload it first and batch-add it and then upload homevideo.jpg (the thumbnail) and also batch-add that one.
If the manuall is correct then the video should use the same thumbnail as the likewise named thumbnail you uploaded.
Which is method number 2 in the manuall.

Not quiet, Hein, you do not batch add the thumb.  And you can ftp upload it at the same time as the flash file.
But just be sure to use the correct filename, which must be 'thumb_filename.jpg'

The thumb will then be used for the flash file, even during the batch add process.

Note, the docs are unclear on this, I will look into modifying them.

Got the picture now. Seems like a good idea to look over the thumbnail section again. My english is not that good but people with even less understanding of the language are having not much fun i guess  ;D

Need help in changing that part into something a bit more understandable ?

you mustn't use batch-add, you're just meant to ftp-upload the thumbnail file and that's it.

Make sure the swf file extension is not in uppercase, and also make sure you have entered the file dimensions, which can be done on upload or using edit pics.

Ah, I see something that may be causing this, you have spaces in your folder names.

Try uploading these into a folder that does not have a space or unusual character in the folder names.

what I was thinking is in the edit file menu you can select a custom picture from there.

but this picture would have to reside in coppermine's database already to show up in edit files, don't you agree? I must confess that I wasn't exactly expecting an answer to my previous question, it was meant to be a bit ironical. Sure you can come up with an idea how a page should look like and how software is suppossed to work, but you can't actually code it, so it's of little use.
You have given us a hard time on the support board, imo it's time you look into the thread We need your help and start giving something back  ;) (*hint*).
