You don't need to edit the gallery files. You need to edit the album, category, image descriptions/details. So if you have a picture of a flower, edit the description to include the name of the file or whatever.

You basically need to make things make sense for human visitors. It doesn't matter if the search engines find your site and it ends up being useless to the visitor.

There isn't much you can do to promote your site on Google.  There is, I believe, a search engine optimization mod, but you'll have to look around and search the forums for it.  You can add META tags to your theme.php file.  Just search for <meta.  Do a google search for meta tag to see what you can do to make your site more visible to search engines.

Google doesn't put too much weight on meta tags. What needs to be done is getting other high-ranking sites to link to your gallery, and have good descriptive text.

Well put, Trans.  That's why my site does pretty good on Google and other search engines.  The key is to get out there and be visible on heavy traffic sites, and put links back to your website.

...but there's a thin line between search engine optimization ("SEO") and search engine spamming (for some those terms are synonyms). Make sure not to just dump links to your site in unrelated context, or you'll get branded as spammer in no time.
