Multiple user categories???
« on: November 06, 2003, 04:54:34 am »

Is it possible to have more than one category for users to upload to?

For example, I want to set up the gallery with 2 main categories:
1. Photographs
2. Digital Art

Then, in each category i want to have my own galleries, and then user galleries too.  how can i do this?

Any other way i can go about allowing users to upload their galleries to a category other than "user galleries" ??

there's no way you can have user galleries in another location than -err - "user galleries". You'll have to create categories and albums for your user they're able to upload into (group settings "registered can upload" yes, album properties "visitors can upload" yes). At the moment there's no way users can create albums outside their user gallery. Sorry.

damn.... any plans to add that as a feature in a later release?  seems like the logical next step to take with user galleries, no?

thanks for the response

hm, let's see: something in the groups setting saying "allow users of this group to create albums"?

Close, but i was thinking more along the lines of :

"Allow users of this group to create albums in the following category: "  with a drop down list of the various available categories.

Or, instead of having just 1 user category, have multiple user categories, and then be able to assign each user to 1 or more different categories so they can create their own galleries in the different categories.

sound do-able?

how about this for an idea.... being able to set up a new category, and having the option of adding albums from the user galleries to the new category (but not duplicating the albums, just choosing which albums we want to appear in the new category, and having those link to the original albums in the user galleries)

does that make sense?

sounds to complicated to me, as it requires a lot of database manipulation and additional queries; and a lot of users would get lost in dealing with this.

Nah, you just have one section "user galleries" and have an option of leaving it 'default' (one user gallery) or 'custom'

if custom chosen, have an option to 'create a new user gallery'

then have a section called 'gallery users' and for each gallery have the option of allocation of users to the different galleries.  of course if users are not allocated to a specific gallery, then they will automatically be allocated to the default gallery (so the dumbies cant muck up too badly)

i think its pretty sensible, don't u?  would anyone else out there like this feature?
