Thumbs from video
« on: December 29, 2004, 08:43:14 pm »

I read about custom thumbs for video files, but can someone point me in the right direction to learn how to create thumbs from videos? I'd like the thumbs to come from the video, just to be clear.

Thank you

You'll have to use video editing software to capture a frame from your video.  GD and ImageMagick can't do it for you.

Thanks.  Could you recommend a moderately priced editing program?

Kegobeer,

Any way to get the ssi_CoppermineImages function for SMF  to show the same video thumbs as in CPG?

don't try to hijack a thread, not even one you started yourself. The ssi mod goes unsupported and is not recommended. Use the rss feed or CoppermineFetch mod instead.

If some developer really wants to automate thumbnails from video then look into  http://ffmpeg-php.sourceforge.net/

*NOTE* This is not a trivial task - you need to compile PHP / the extension to begin with as it will almost never be available with your host. You will probably need your own server to do the job. I have not tried the extension myself and will not be able to answer any queries

I believe fn is talking about the SMF SSI.php file - I wrote a couple of SMF functions to pull info from Coppermine to display on my main site.  Those questions should be addressed in a separate thread, or over on my site, and not in this thread.  That is a SMF issue, and not a Coppermine issue.
