How to put Php code into template?

Question are in topic. When i inserted php code (<? print... ?>) , doing nothing. I cant see anything. What i must to do ?

You cannot put php in the template directly. You must use theme.php as descibed in the docs.

But write me one. I want include some counter (online,today,yesterday etc.). What i must insert to theme.php and template.htm ?
