How to participate to 1.4 tests?
« on: November 04, 2004, 12:07:53 am »

hi all

how could I participate to 1.4 tests? I'm really interested by many new features of this version and would be happy to help with the tests.

cpg1.4 (the devel version) is only meant for experienced users, it's not meant for production use, as it still has bugs (it's in an alpha stage). We're not giving out the package to "regular" users to avoid support requests from unexperienced users, who often don't care to read the warning about the devel version not being fit for production use. You need to understand how coppermine works to be able to actually come up with valid testing results, that's why we only let users have the package who actually have shown in the past that they know their way around in coppermine by contributing one way or the other to coppermine (e.g. supporters, mod contributors, translators). "Regular" users who don't have this kind of "status" are however free to check out the cvs - if you want, you can consider this as some sort of "test", or an additional obstacle you have to pass to prove you know your way around: only those who manage to check out the devel version from the cvs can participate in the test (or use cpg1.4 for production use at their own risk).
To make a long story short: either check out the devel branch of the cvs, or contribute to coppermine in one way or the other to "earn" the status that let's have you a package and access to the "cpg1.4 bugs/testing" board.

Hey folks,

Everyone can participate - the source is available from the CVS - just check it out and use.

This is an open source project we cannot and have not prevented anyone from using even the unreleased versions of code. Just that we cannot offer support on unreleased versions

I think what doggystyle was hinting at, was that he has contributed, the camera phone upload .(http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=5081.msg35872#msg35872).

I think he was missed from being added to the 'contributors' group.  Perhaps that can be done now.

@Casper: I guess you're right  ;)
@doggystyle: sorry, we have started the group membership thing after you had contributed - it was my oversight not to add you to the contributor group. Have done so now - added you to the contributor group, you should have access to the cpg1.4 testing/bugs board now. Have fun ;D
@all: as Tarique suggested (and as I was trying to say in my previous posting on this thread): everybody is free to use the CVS
