Basic theme question, please help a noob!

Hi there,

Is there a FAQ for themes, outside the one on the main page?

I have downloaded the Reynolds theme, and basically I just want to convert my gallery from the current ugly layout to his slick layout...

But when I simply upload the new files without changing anything, it looks terrible and doesn't resemble Reynold's theme at all. How do I use his layout?
