[Solved]: Animated Gifs
« on: April 26, 2004, 12:32:28 am »

I noticed when I uploaded animated gifs the thumbnails would get messed up, but normaly the full sized version looked fine. But I recently uploaded a picture and both the thumbnail and the fullsize version have been messed up? Any idea how I go about fixing it?

http://images.lebowski.ws/displayimage.php?pos=-323 is the image after being uploaded

http://images.lebowski.ws/quagmirelq.gif is without being uploaded through web interface

Edit: It seems it was something to do with having filmstrip enabled? before it showed the url for the image after clicking thumbnail as
http://images.lebowski.ws/albums/userpics/10001/normal_quagmirelq.gif now is shows it as http://images.lebowski.ws/albums/userpics/10001/quagmirelq.gif

Edit again: Have been reading more on forums and saw some posts about how imagemagick cant resize/compress gif files, did anyone come up with a workaround solution untill the legal problems are fixed?

no, the reason is: GD doesn't have support for GIFs at all, ImageMagick has only limited support for non-animated GIFs and can't use (for legal reasons) the lzw algorythm (well, sort of... read the full story: http://www.imagemagick.org/www/FAQ.html#C30 e.a and http://www.boutell.com/gd/faq.html ).
If you want my personal opinion: animated GIFs suck anyway, at least for a picture gallery.

Thanks just saw them, But it doesnt seem like any workaround other than replacing thumbnails with the full size version or making your own was found?

Also why does enabling filmstrip use a different file with normal_ in front? (it looked the same dimensions as the full size to me?)

Edit also off topic but is there any site with preview or screenshots of all the themes on sourceforge?

Yes, the demo (link at top) has all the themes, selectable from a dropdown box.

What's wrong with the demo? At the very top of this page, click on the link that says "demo" and then use the dropdown box that says "Choose a theme"...
