I've spent a lot of time recently with 1.6 upgrading and forgotten the problems I used to have with a mobile.
I don't notice any problem with Android tablets but have tried on a couple of Android mobiles and cleared the cache, just in case that caused a problem.
Firefox is great for Lightbox and HTML5 slideshow but the intermediate image overflows the screen.
Chrome is great for the intermediate image and HTML5 slideshow but Lightbox on fills part of the screen.

With both browsers I have taken screenshots when trying to view the above
These are the results from Firefox, Chrome will follow in next post as 6 screenshots in total.

The results with Chrome are below, any help appreciated.

Sorry I posted Chrome3 twice, here is Chrome1

Just tried a Samsung Android browser on my mobile and that displays an image using Lightbox just filling two thirds of the screen, similar to what Chrome does.
I've also noticed that tapping twice on the black area below the Lightbox image does increase the size of the image slightly, whereas with Google the image almost fills the screen.
Am I missing something in my browser settings that needs altering, or is it just one of life's big mysteries to which there is no obvious answer??

Upgraded the Firefox browser app to see if it made a difference, think it magnified the screen a bit more and more of the image lost, then tried adjusting various browser and system settings but nothing changed.
Next I changed the theme switch to use curve_responsive, which I had tried some time ago. On the plus side, the external page layout always seems to fit, but the thumbnails are so small and the text below a thumbnail is only about 13 characters on a line. MiniCMS does show as well, which is a bonus.
Are there any easy modifications to the theme to make it more usable? I think this screenshot will show what I mean...

Sorry, forgot the link to the test version for curve_responsive for you to see how it looks
