Title: Question regarding the views!
Post by: Butterfly. on July 23, 2016, 11:29:38 pm
Hello,

I have a question regarding coppermine gallery on fansite.
I have noticed something really weird, on some website, I have a feeling people are using a tool to change the view.
I explain myself, I noticed they upload pics, no one is aware of that, then you actualise 5 seconds laters and the pics have 500 views.
Is there a way to change manually the counter view ?

Thanks in advance

View counts are stored in the database, so someone with site admin access can certainly change them.
I don't recommend it as people will discover (as you did) and the site can lose credibility... If that matters to a fan site.

Ugh.... This is a really sticky issue for moderating.
People are incredibly touchy about the view count of their photos.  I had a gallery member once who repeatedy opened her own photos to raise their view count. It is very silly and childish behavior but not fair to other users, so it should be taken seriously.

You can see the IPs of the viewers you know, as admin.

If someone links to a picture in your gallery, and posts the picture on a busy forum or website, that can raise the count too, I think. Perhaps that is what happened here.

Have you considered asking the member about it?

Good luck!
