Title: Canon EOS-300D
Post by: hvacr on July 08, 2004, 03:19:27 am
I have the above camera, and it seems the exif reader will not read the info from these pictures. I know the exif data is ok, as I can read it in other programs. does anyone have this camera, and have you found a work around for it. The server I use will read exif data, as my wifes site works fine.

Thanks for any help

Here is one here, I can read the exif in photoshop and other programs. I shoot in raw format, and use Capture1 pro to convert the photos. This program is very good, and never destroys exif data.

Thanks for your help.

Some softwares like jhead (a command line utility) which read EXIF are giving "Invalid Exif start (1)" error on this file - however I can indeed read EXIF data in Photoshop and some other softwares

Looks like the EXIF library we use is not written for Canon images, you can search the mods board for a mod which uses PHP EXIFer instead of the library CPG provides and use that

Thanks.

Seems the files are no longer available.

Looks looks I am off trying to find another gallery.

It does not seem to read the full exif file though, your missing some. Do you shoot jpg or raw format.

I shoot raw, transform it to jpg with zoombrowser, and then resize wit pc2cam, which let me do this keeping the exif data.
I also have a Canon A70, which displays the same amout of info, and the same with other brands that some users of my page upload... dont know if it is supossed to be shown more

I just tried a gallery called minigal, and with the same photo I used above, this is the exif that it shows.

Model   EOS DIGITAL REBEL
Shutter   1/500 sec
Aperture   f 8
Focal length   21 mm
ISO   100
Exposure   0 EV
Flash   No Flash
Original   2004:04:25 02:28:38
Metering   Center Weighted Average

So there is much more that can be displayed. I wish it would work with coppermine, as it blows away minigal.

Coppermine is vast!! Search the boards - the EXIFixer mod is still there plus I have posted in the past how to add any field that you need from the EXIF into the display....

Well I have founf a mod for it, and now I get this

ile Size:   311 KB
Dimensions:   1024 x 683 pixels
Displayed:   2 times
Camera:   Canon - EOS DIGITAL REBEL
Date taken:   2004:04:25 01:17:36
Aperture:   f 6.3
Exposure time:   1/125 sec
Focal length:   18 mm

I have tried to add the file for iso, but cannot get it to read at all. It also seems with this mod, the exif info does not store in the database.

After sitting here this morning comparing the way minigal to coppermine, and the way each read exif files, I have done it. Below is the exif I now get.

File Size:   154 KB
Dimensions:   1024 x 683 pixels
Displayed:   1 times
Camera:   Canon - EOS DIGITAL REBEL
Date taken:   2004:07:10 21:29:54
Aperture:   f 8
ISO:   100
Flash:   Flash
Metering:   Center Weighted Average
Exposure:   0 EV
Exposure time:   1/10 sec
Focal length:   28 mm

Mine just consists of existing hacks, plus a few additions. If you were going to do this with the existing exif reader, this may be easier for people. This hack is using exifer, which I found through a search here.
